32-year-old woman dies as Punjab cases rise to 2,108

A 32-year-old woman died of coronavirus in Lahore’s Mayo Hospital on Wednesday.

She was being treated for the last four days in the hospital. According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the patient was also suffering from liver-related complications.

This is the ninth death in Lahore and 17th in Punjab. There are 340 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Lahore and of them 12 were reported in the last 24 hours and 2,108 cases across Punjab.

Situation in Punjab

The district-wise details of deaths are: Lahore (9), Rawalpindi (4) and one each in Rahim Yar Khan, Jhelum, Faisalabad and Gujrat.

With 78 new cases reported on Wednesday, the tally has jumped at 2,180 in Punjab.

The health department has made four categories of corona patient’s data common citizens, zaireen (pilgrims), tableeghi (Raiwind congregation participants) and prisoners.

According to Primary and Secondary Health Department latest data, with 30 new cases emerged on Wednesday among common citizens the figure reached at 744. After Lahore, the most number of cases of common citizens are in Gujrat (98) followed by Rawalpindi (63), Gujranwala (39), Jhelum (30), Faisalabad (21), DG Khan (18) and rest of the cases are reported in Kasur, Sheikhupura, Attock, Chakwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad,  Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Layyah, Okara, Vehari, Nankana, Chiniot, Rahim Yar Khan, Mandi Bahauddin and Toba Tek Singh, Mianwali and Khusab.

Around nine new cases were reported among prisoners reaching the confirmed cases at 58.

There is no new case reported on Wednesday among Iran-returned pilgrims while there are 695 pilgrims being quarantined and treated in DG Khan (220), Multan (425) and Faisalabad (18).

The situation in Raiwind Markaz has been deteriorated as 39 new cases reported among the Raiwind ijtima members and the tally surged to 611. Most number of cases (455) are present at the Raiwind Markaz.

Other confirmed coronavirus cases of the Raiwind gathering participants are now being quarantined in following districts: Hafizabad (31), Layyah (17), Sargodha (16), Rahim Yar Khan (15), 10 in Shekhupura and Jhelum, Gujrat (9), Bahawalnagar (8), 6 in Rawalpindi and Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin (3), Nankana (2) and one each in Rajanpur and Bhakkar.

Good News

As many as 34 people have successfully recovered from the deadly respiratory virus in Punjab.

Testing Labs

According to Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid, to date in Punjab, 29,158 tests have been conducted including 10,995 at public sector labs, 7,332 at National Institute of Health lab and 10,831 at private labs Shaukat Khanum Lahore Lab (free) and Chughtai Labs. Out of these 2,108 have tested positive, the rest are negative.

The Punjab government has already extended the lockdown in the province till April 14.

The Punjab Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department has issued advisory regarding Shab-e-Barat gatherings in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

According to the advisory, no gathering will be allowed at the mosques. People are asked to worship at homes individually. The decision was made after taking clerics from all schools of thought into confidence, said the advisory.

The department urged the people to stay at homes and pray for the country to get rid of the coronavirus. The department said the decision was taken to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country.
