According to the TV channel, the arrested accused divulged to the authorities that they stole electricity units in Islamabad and almost every district of Punjab by installing chips in the digital meters and took away millions of units on a daily basis.

The accused have developed a method to fit a chip inside the meters installed at industrial, commercial and domestic premises. The IESCO officials were part of the gang and were involved in power theft.

The accused stole electricity units with coordinated operations as in the beginning IESCO officials will visit a premise on the pretext of examining the electricity connection working but instead, they silently install a chip inside the digital meter. Later, they operate the digital meter with remote control.

Now the IESCO officials have launched large-scale operations against power thieves on the basis of information provided by these high-tech power thieves while Discos across Punjab have also formed raiding teams to search for “chip meters”.
