Heavy rain lashes twin cities of Rawalpindi, Islamabad
Downpour results in marked surge in water levels at Nullah Lai; Showers also reported from several upper Punjab cities

Heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and some other parts of the country on Thursday morning, inundating several low-lying areas and resulting in a marked surge in water levels in rain drains, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The water levels in Nullah Lai of Rawalpindi rose to 21-feet at Katarian and five-feet at Gawalmandi, prompting the authorities to issue a state of high alert.
Zero Point in Islamabad received the highest amount of rainfall, totaling 126 millimeters, followed by Golra 119 millimeters, Bokra 91 millimeters, H-8 89 millimeters, Saidpur village 79 millimeters, while in Rawalpindi, 65, 85 and 66 millimeters of rain was recorded at Kutchehry, Shamsabad and Chaklala areas of the city.
Showers were also reported from several towns and cities of upper Punjab, including Sarai Alamgir and Kharian.
On the other hand, the Met Office predicted more monsoon rains for different parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir, Balochistan and the coastal areas of Sindh, including Karachi, during the next 24 hours.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are entering the upper parts of the country, along with a westerly wave and were likely to produce rain and gusty winds in these areas.
The department forecast torrential rains for some parts of the country namely Islamabad, the Potohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, Kashmir, and northeast Balochistan, while hot and humid weather is anticipated in other parts of the country.
National cricket team’s practice session cancelled
The downpour led to the cancellation of the national cricket team’s practice session, which was due to be held at Islamabad Club in the morning.
