Dyson's chief executive Hanno Kirner on Tuesday announced changes to the vacuum maker's organisation that could result in job losses in Britain.

A source close to the matter added that "around 1,000" out of 3,500 UK employees could be impacted by the changes.

Created by inventor James Dyson, the Singapore-based company's products include also hair dryers and air purifiers.

"We have grown quickly and, like all companies, we review our global structures from time to time to ensure we are prepared for the future," Kirner said in a statement.

"As such, we are proposing changes to our organisation, which may result in redundancies."

He added that "Dyson operates in increasingly fierce and competitive global markets, in which the pace of innovation and change is only accelerating".
