Police in Ghotki, Sindh have claimed to have arrested the main suspect in the murder of journalist Nasrullah Gadani, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, SSP Sumair Noor Chana has said that two persons murdered Gadani while the third one facilitated the crime.

He has said that the person taken into custody is Asghar Lond, while raids are being conducted for the arrest of Barkat Lond and Abdullah Lond, who acted as a facilitator. “Lond is being interrogated in order to ascertain the motive of the crime as well to know the whereabouts of his accomplices,” he has explained.

The official has said that the police have also recovered the motorcycle as well as the weapons used in the killing of the journalist from the possession of the suspect.

Giving further details, the SSP has said that the police managed to get to the culprits with the help of the latest technology.  

The journalist had come under attack 19 days ago while he was on his way from his home to Mirpur Mathelo.

He was initially shifted to Rahim Yar Khan’s Sheikh Zayed Hospital in an injured condition, and later to Aga Khan Hospital in Karachi where he breathed his last.

The murder of the journalist led to a sit-in outside the SSP’s office, while the protestors also blocked the National Highway.

It was only when the SSP assured the arrest of assassins within three days that the protest came to an end.
