ATC Rawalpindi sentences bombing convicts to triple death penalty

An Anti-Terrorism Court of Rawalpindi Monday sentenced two men to three death penalties each for their involvement in a deadly bombing that shook the Ganj Mandi market area, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

 The convicts, identified as Nusrat Khan and Adil Khan, were found guilty of multiple charges, including terrorism and murder.

The court, presided over by Judge Malik Ejaz Asif, delivered the verdict.

The bombing incident, which occurred on December 13, 2020, claimed the life of a woman named Yasmeen and left five others injured.

The attackers were apprehended by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police, who also recovered a substantial amount of explosives from them.

In addition to the death sentences, the court handed down three life sentences to each convict under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Moreover, the court imposed a cumulative 23-year prison term for attempted murder and causing injuries, alongside a fine of Rs 500,000 and compensation amounting to PKR 450,000.

Following the announcement of the verdict, Nusrat Khan and Adil Khan were escorted in handcuffs to Adiala Jail, where they will await the execution of their sentences.

The court emphasized the heinous nature of the crime, stating that the convicts will remain on death row until their execution.

"This is an extremely heinous crime," Judge Malik Ejaz Asif remarked.

 "They will remain on the gallows until their death."
