The Punjab government plans to mark the completion of 100 days of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz in office by announcing the construction of five expressways which will benefit over 20 million people of the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The roads, which would be completed at the cost of Rs175 billion, would connect over 12 districts of Punjab and 90,000 vehicles would ply on them every day.

According to the plan, already existing single carriageways, which are in a dilapidated condition, would be developed into dual carriageways since two to three accidents were taking place on each such road every day.

Journeys, which normally take hours to complete, would now be completed in minutes courtesy of these expressways.

The expressway connecting Multan to Vehari would be 93.5 kilometers long, that connecting Faisalabad to Chiniot would be 24 kilometers long, Bahawalpur to Changra 42 kilometers long, Sahiwal to Summundri 57.7 kilometers long, and the expressway connecting Chichawatni to Layyah would be 199 kilometers long.

The journey between Faisalabad and Chiniot which previously would take 45 minutes to complete would now be completed in 25 minutes.

Similarly, earlier it would take one and a half hours to travel between Sahiwal and Summundri. But after the construction of the expressway between these two cities, the time would be cut short to 40 minutes.

Likewise, previously it would take four hours to reach Layyah from Chichawatni. Now, however, after the completion of the expressway, the time would be reduced to two hours.

Vehicles on these roads will ply at the speed of 100 to 120 kilometers per hour, while passing through urban areas at 70 kilometers per hour.

According to the Punjab Minister for Construction and Transport Sohaib Ahmad Berth, each and every project of CM Maryam is people-friendly. “The chief minister did her best to provide relief to the masses during 100 days of her stay in office,” he has said, adding, “The next budget will also be pro-people.”
