The Punjab government has decided to abolish Zakat Department and is likely to merge in Social Welfare Department, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

According to sources the Chief Minister Punjab gave in-principle approval to abolish the department and merge it with Social Welfare.

However, the Punjab government has sought further recommendations from the steering committee in this regard.

The committee will devise a method to integrate the Zakat Department in the Social Welfare Department.

Recommendations were made to the Punjab Chief Minister yesterday to abolish the Zakat department.
