Pakistan and the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia have officially established diplomatic relations, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.

The formal ceremony took place in New York, where Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, and Saint Lucia's Permanent Representative, Manisa Rambali, signed the joint declaration on behalf of their respective countries.

The event marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations, who already cooperate in multilateral fora such as the Commonwealth.

Former West Indies cricketer Darren Sammy, an honorary Pakistani citizen, hails from Saint Lucia, highlighting the personal connections between the two countries.

The ceremony was attended by Pakistan's Permanent Representative Munir Akram, Usman Jadoon, and other officials from the diplomatic mission.
