The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has banned green meters used in solar systems, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

Orders have been issued to install Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters instead of bidirectional green meters.

Director Customer Services Sarwar Mughal issued notification banning green meter.

LESCO will issue No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for purchase of AMI meters for solar connection and on the basis of NOC, consumers will purchase meters from the market.

The purchase of AMI meters will result in an additional burden of Rs20,000 on the consumers.

There is a difference of twenty thousand rupees in the price of AMI meter compared to green meter.

Installation of AMI meters will reduce overbilling and electricity theft.
