President Zardari urges enhanced law enforcement efforts for counter-terrorism in Balochistan

President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday emphasized the critical need to bolster the efficiency of law enforcement agencies to effectively combat terrorism in Balochistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

President Zardari chaired a high-level meeting in Gwadar focused on reviewing the security and law and order situation in the province.

The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, MNA Malik Shah Gurgej, Interior Minister Mir Ziaullah Longo, MPA Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, and other top civil and military officials. Discussions centred on strategies to enhance security measures, improve law enforcement capabilities, and address the socio-economic challenges in Balochistan.

President Zardari underscored the importance of appointing competent police officers and strengthening the prosecution system to ensure effective counter-terrorism measures. He praised the provincial government's targeted action plan, which has led to notable improvements in the security landscape across different districts of Balochistan.

The briefing also highlighted efforts to provide enhanced security to Chinese and foreign nationals in the region.

Addressing broader development issues, President Zardari stressed the necessity of improving the socio-economic conditions in Balochistan through skill development programs and educational initiatives.

He advocated for expanding training institutions to equip more individuals with the necessary skills, including foreign languages, to enhance employment opportunities.

Furthermore, President Zardari emphasized the promotion of sustainable fishing practices and the development of the fishing industry in Balochistan, calling for adequate capital and equipment support for local fishermen.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti expressed gratitude for the visit, highlighting its significance in fostering a sense of belonging among the people of Balochistan.

He affirmed the provincial government's commitment to prioritize the enhancement of police and levies' efficiency, along with empowering border area residents through skill development initiatives.

The meeting concluded with a consensus among stakeholders on the urgent need for collective efforts and national consensus to achieve sustainable development, eradicate terrorism, and address the socio-economic challenges facing Balochistan.
