Punjab govt weighs Rs30 billion subsidy package for wheat farmers

Amid the wheat purchase row, the Punjab government is planning to provide a subsidy package for wheat farmers in the province and in this respect, the Food Department has presented a Rs30 billion package to the government for approval, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to details, PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting to discuss challenges faced by wheat farmers, CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Food Minister and other concerned officers of various departments attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the Food Department officers suggested the provision of a Rs500 subsidy to farmers per 40kg of wheat and the department suggested the allocation of Rs30 billion for the package.

Moreover, it was unanimously decided that the farmers who were getting gunny bags would be granted a subsidy. First of all, the farmers who have applied for a subsidy will get the benefit of the package.

The approval of decisions taken in the meeting will be approved by the Punjab Cabinet during its upcoming meeting.
