A court in Islamabad acquitted former prime minister and ex-PTI chairman Imran Khan in two May 9-related cases registered against him at Shahzad Town police station for want of evidence, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir pronounced the verdict on the petitions filed by Imran.

Former prime minister’s lawyers Naeem Panjutha and Mirza Asim Beg gave arguments in support of their client’s acquittal.

In his arguments, Beg said that the complainant in the FIR registered against Imran was not connected to the case. “Besides that, no evidence could be presented in the court that could show that the former prime minister was involved in acts of vandalism and arson on that day,” he added.
