The Foreign Office on Sunday rejected the Indian minister for external affairs’ statement on Gilgit-Baltistan.

In a tweet, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said, “#Pakistan categorically rejects Indian MEA Statement on Gilgit-Baltistan. India has no locus standi whatsoever on the issue - legal, moral or historical. False claims by India can neither change facts nor divert attention from India’s illegal actions & HRs violations in #IIOJK.

“#Pakistan’s position on J&K dispute remains firmly anchored in relevant UNSC Resolutions. The final resolution of the dispute is only possible through the exercise of the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination by holding free & impartial plebiscite under the auspices of @UN.

“Administrative, political & economic reforms are a long-standing demand of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. The envisaged provisional reforms reflect the aspirations of the indigenous populace of Gilgit-Baltistan.”
