At least 16 people lost their eyes allegedly after they underwent cataract surgery at a free medical camp organised by a private hospital in Multan recently.

Abdul Maalik, one of the complainants who lost their eyes after cataract surgeries at Laeeque Rafiq Hospital in Multan, said he was told that pain and blurriness in his eyes would go after the surgery. Maalik’s family said they consulted another eye specialist after Maalik’s surgery at Laeeque Rafiq Hospital and he told them that his eye had been lost forever.

As the Punjab Health Department failed to take any action against the hospital, relatives of the victims made videos of the affected persons and posted these on social media platforms. Maalik’s brother Mustafa said that 16 patients got surgeries of their eyes done at Laeeque Rafiq Hospital on March 20.

Later, their surgeries went wrong and they lost one eye each. They have now appealed to the Punjab government to take action against the responsible.
