The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Sunday fixed for hearing the contempt of court case in connection with leaking the data of the IHC judge Justice Babar Sattar’s family and running a social media campaign against him, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A larger bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), headed by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, will take up the case for the hearing tomorrow.
On May 14, 2024, a larger bench of the IHC had issued notices to the attorney general office, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and other spy agencies after initiating contempt proceedings against them on a smear social media campaign against Justice Babar Sattar.
Earlier on May 8, the high court had formed two separate benches on the issue after Justice Sattar and Justice Kayani wrote to IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, seeking contempt proceedings against those involved in leaking personal details of the judge and running malicious campaigns against him on social media.
Addressing the state counsel, Justice Kayani remarked that the court was going to initiate contempt of court proceedings in the case.
The judge remarked either the "state institutions might have leaked confidential data or their system was hacked".
“This is all being done to mount pressure on a judge [Justice Sattar], who is hearing a case,” remarked Justice Kayani, adding that it was a dangerous matter that confidential details of the judge and his family members were made public.
