Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has emphasised that "climate finance is climate justice" and called for a movement to address this critical issue, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Monday.

Speaking at an event at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), he noted that no substantial progress had been made regarding climate change in the past seven years.

Justice Shah underlined the urgency of accelerating climate diplomacy, adding that Pakistan is the eighth-most affected country by climate change and currently faces a climate emergency.

The Supreme Court judge stressed the need for a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.

He said, "Courts have always taken climate emergency cases seriously and issued directives in environmental cases, but no significant progress has been seen on the ground.

He added that the government has not focused on the issues related to climate change, and it seems the government does not have sufficient financial resources to address it."

Highlighting global concerns, Justice Shah remarked that rivers worldwide are drying up rapidly due to climate change, and he emphasised the importance of environmental justice for the South Pole.

Justice Shah also acknowledged limitations within Pakistan's judiciary, stating, "We can no longer take suo moto action, and administrative issues remain a significant challenge."
