The federal government Thursday directed the Punjab government to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), to probe the firing incident on the convoy of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at Wazirabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a letter from the interior ministry addressing to the Punjab Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department and Inspector General of Police Government of Punjab Lahore, the federal government directed to form a JIT comprising senior officers of Police and other Law Enforcement Agencies / Intelligence Agencies, to carry out a fair and transparent probe into the incident in the public interest.

The letter states that the Federal Government views this tragic incident with grave concern.

The Government of Punjab is, therefore, advised to constitute a Joint Investigation Team.

The letter was issued with the approval of the Minister of Interior, Rana Sanaullah.
