Pakistan Navy to induct two warships on Defence Day

Two warships PNS Babar and PNS Hunain will be formally inducted into the fleet of Pakistan Navy on the occasion of Defense Day, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to an ISPR statement, President Asif Ali Zardari is expected to be the chief guest on the occasion.
PNS Babar has been built in Turkiye while PNS Hunain in Romania. These will further increase Pakistan Navy's defence capabilities.
The Pakistan Navy has made a significant enhancement to its maritime defence capabilities with the induction of two new warships—PNS Babur and PNS Hunain—into its fleet.
The formal induction ceremony will take place on Defence Day, marking a milestone in the nation's naval strength.
PNS Babur, the first MILGEM/Babur-class ship built in Turkey, and PNS Hunain, an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) constructed in Romania, were simultaneously added to the Pakistan Navy’s fleet.
The event was graced by President Asif Ali Zardari as the chief guest.
The construction of PNS Babar began on 4 June 2020, and it was launched on 15 August 2021.
The ship was officially commissioned on 23 September 2023.
"Equipped with a Vertical Launching System (VLS), the Babar-class vessels are designed for multi-dimensional warfare, capable of engaging threats on the surface, underwater, and in the air," the ISPR stated.
Three additional Babur-class ships—PNS Badr, Tariq, and Khyber—are currently under various stages of construction in Istanbul and Karachi.
PNS Hunain is the third Yarmook-class OPV, built at Romania’s Galati Shipyard.
This 2,600-tonne vessel is designed for both surface and aerial combat, as well as search and rescue operations.
It is equipped with a VLS system capable of launching surface-to-air missiles and features a 76mm main gun, supplemented by two 20mm secondary guns.
The addition of these vessels is a testament to Pakistan's growing defence partnership with Turkey and Romania, and the ships are expected to significantly boost the operational capacity of the Pakistan Navy.
