Federal Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari has said if the family of Nazim Jokhio goes for a compromise with the suspects, the state will pursue the case in court.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday, the federal minister was speaking dring a session of the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights.
The state will become complainant if the family of victims backs off, the minister said citing the example of the Qandeel Baloch murder case in which the state became a complainant to bar the victim's family from pardoning her killers.
She said the federal government directed police to provide protection to the bereaved family of the deceased.
Reportedly, the committee summoned the Sindh inspector general of police (IGP) to brief lawmakers on the case, but he did not appeared. Other police officials attending the session told the committee the case is being pursued as per the wishes of the victim’s relatives.
