It has been revealed that Pakistani neuroscientist Dr Aafia, imprisoned in an American prison, was sexually assaulted at least twice, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

This disclosure was made by Dr Aafia Siddiqui's lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, who says that the Government of Pakistan is aware of the incidents of sexual assault on Dr Aafia.

Stafford Smith said that Dr Aafia told him about the sexual assault after which a complaint was filed.

He said that Dr Aafia was sexually assaulted in Bagram prison as well, and the sexual assault was committed as an interrogation tactic.

The lawyer said that Dr Aafia, who is presently serving 86-year jail term in the USA on terrorism-related charges, is abused and tortured on a daily basis.

Clive Stafford Smith has said that the Americans used rape as a tool to extract information from her.

A few days ago, Fowzia Siddiqui met with her sister Aafia Siddiqui at a prison hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

The meeting, which lasted for 44 minutes, was first scheduled to be held on December 2 and December 3, but the authorities denied it saying they had lost the prison’s key.

This was the second meeting between the two sisters in 20 years. They had first met earlier in May after Aafia’s lengthy imprisonment.

Pakistan’s neuroscientist was sentenced to 86 years behind bars by a US Federal Court in 2010, after she was proven guilty of firing at US troops in Afghanistan while in their custody and other six charges against her.
