Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian cricket team’s seasoned spinner, has recently achieved two significant milestones in his illustrious career.
The 37-year-old cricketer has not only become the 14th Indian to play 100 Test matches but also surpassed Anil Kumble’s record by becoming the fastest Indian bowler to claim 500 Test wickets.
Ashwin’s 100th Test match was the fifth and final game of the series between England and India, held in Dharamshala. As he stepped onto the field, his teammates honored him with a guard of honour, acknowledging his immense contribution to Indian cricket.
Ashwin’s journey in international cricket began in 2011 when he made his debut against the West Indies. Since then, he has been a crucial part of the Indian bowling attack, taking 507 wickets in 99 Tests at a strike rate of 53.9 and an average of 26.5.
In his 100th Test match, Ashwin had the opportunity to join the ranks of cricket legends like Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, and Muttiah Muralidharan by taking a five-wicket haul. This feat would mirror his debut match against the West Indies, where he claimed his first five-wicket haul.
Ashwin’s achievements place him in the esteemed company of Indian cricketers who have played 100 or more Test matches, including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, and Cheteshwar Pujara.
