A court in Karachi on Monday ordered 80 lashes to a man for refusing to be the father of a child and falsely accusing her ex-wife of adultery, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Malir Shehnaz gave sentence to Farid under the Qazf Ordinance, 1979.
In its verdict, the judge said that following the man’s conviction by the Federal Shariat Court (FSC), his statement would not be admissible in any court.
Ordering the convict to submit a surety bond of Rs100, 000, the judge said still he would have to appear at the place and on time as decided by the court so that he could be sentenced.
According to the plaintiff, she had married the convict in 2015. “After staying with my husband for one month, I returned to my parent's home where I gave birth to a baby girl,” she said in the petition.
During the hearing of the case, the man filed two petitions; in one of them, he had sought the court order for conducting the DNA test of the child to determine whether she was legitimate or illegitimate.
However, after some time, he took his both petitions back.
Later, the woman filed a petition against her ex-husband in a sessions court under the Hudood Ordinance.
The court said that during the hearing, neither Farid applied for clemency nor did he dropped charges against his ex-wife.
