The Punjab government has scrapped the old policy of providing jobs to the children of employees who died while in service, under Section 17-A of the Punjab Civil Services Rules, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.

Instead, the government will offer monetary compensation to the families of the deceased employees, depending on their grade and rank. The Punjab Finance Department issued a notification on Thursday, after the approval of the cabinet.

According to the notification, the families of grades 1 to 4 employees will receive financial assistance of Rs five million, while those of grade 5 to 10 employees will get Rs7.5 million. The families of employees who died in grades 11 and 12 will receive Rs10million, and those of grade 16 to 17 employees will get Rs15million. The highest amount of Rs 20million will be given to the family in case of the death of an officer in grade 18 to 22.

The government said that the decision was taken to streamline the recruitment process and to ensure transparency and merit.

The government also claimed that the financial assistance would help the families of the deceased employees more than a job, as they would not have to face any legal or administrative hurdles.
