PMLN President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has said that some influential government members are involved in the “mega heist” being committed in the veil of wheat and sugar crises.
Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government is the culprit behind the sugar crisis in the country, he said in a statement issued on Saturday.
He said the corrupt hoard of self-enrichment driven PTI gang first exported sugar to make money and created shortage and is now importing the commodity to mint billions off of people's misery.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader further alleged that Imran oversaw this mega corruption to ensure his ATMs get thoroughly loaded to later serve him with their ill-gotten wealth from corruption.
The government must release the names of the top three government officials importing sugar, he demanded.
“If the government figures themselves are not involved in the loot then why doesn’t it constitute a parliamentary committee to expose the culprits?” asked Shehbaz.
The committee would investigate who profited the most from this crisis and who is responsible for this robbery, he added.
The only reason why the [government’s own] investigation committee did not release any report is that [PM] Niazi and his ministers are guilty, he asserted.
The opposition leader expressed concern and alarm over the destruction of Pakistan's economy by PTI.
He said PTI’s begging to IMF to lower the bar of Rs800 billion is a declaration of the country's economic annihilation. He said the projected 9.5% deficit is a doomsday scenario for the nation.
Shehbaz warned that this fiscal deficit is screaming that Pakistan will be drowned under the coming Tsunami of internal debt, external debt and unimaginable inflation.
Those who broke all records by borrowing by getting Rs11,610 billion in loans in just 18 months are the culprits of the nation, he declared. This, he said, is more than one third of the risk debt borrowed in past 72 years.
PMLN leader said many coming generations of Pakistanis will have to pay the price for this incompetence and corruption of Niazi government.
