Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Aashiq Awan on Friday warned politicians against hosting Iftar dinners or Eid reunion parties anywhere in the province.

Firdous Ashiq Awan also urged the public to strictly follow the Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) issued by the government to control the spread of Covid-19 during Eid holidays.

Talking to media in Rawalpindi, Awan said that no traditional Eid gatherings will be held this year, adding, “There will also be no Jhappian [Hugs] and Pappian [kisses] this Eid”.

The warning came a day before the Punjab government imposed a complete lockdown in the province as part of efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic in the country. During the lockdown, intra and inter-city public transport will remained suspended and markets, shopping centres, restaurants and public parks will remain closed.

Firdous is known for her aggressive stance on issues of public interest. Earlier this week, she shouted and swore at a government officer during her visit to a Ramazan bazaar in her hometown of Sialkot. She was of the view that Sialkot Assistant Commissioner Sonia Sadaf was sitting in her air-conditioned car instead of coming in the temporary market and checking the fruit quality and prices.
