Three major universities in Sindh—Sindh University, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), and Allah Bakhsh Soomro University of Art Design and Heritage—remained closed due to the unavailability of water, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.

Previously closed for winter vacations from December 20, 2024, to January 12, 2025, these universities extended closures after water supply disruptions.

Sources revealed that the universities receive water through Feeder B, a canal linked to the Indus River. Maintenance work on Feeder B has caused a temporary suspension of water supply, according to irrigation officials.

Sindh University issued a circular announcing the commencement of online classes for students starting January 13, 2025. Similarly, online classes are being conducted for Mehran University Jamshoro students.

Irrigation officials stated that the maintenance work on Feeder B is proceeding in phases, and efforts are underway to restore water supply.
