Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday formally launched the livestock card for farmers of the province at a ceremony in Pakpatan.
Under the livestock card scheme, the Punjab government will give farmers interest-free loans for a four-month term for feed. The loan amount will be Rs27,000 per cattle. The provincial government has allocated Rs4.4 billion for the livestock card scheme. Under this scheme, farmers will be given Rs11 billion in the next two years.
At least 117,000 farmers applied for livestock cards through an online portal and 13,000 of them were selected. Registration of 91,907 cattle has been completed under the livestock card scheme. As many as 967 registered dealers will supply feed, silage and mineral mixture for the cattle registered under the livestock card scheme.
The Bank of Punjab will issue livestock cards to 80,000 cards. Farmers having 5 cattle will get Rs135,000 loan and those owning 10 animals will get Rs270,000 loan.
