Punjab govt spent Rs200m for buying 44,900 tear gas shells

Calls for protests and violent incidents began to weigh heavily on the Punjab budget as a huge amount of Rs200 million was spent on the purchase of 44,900 tear gas shells.
The Punjab government has approved funds of Rs400 million for the purchase of tear gas shells.
According to sources in Punjab government, tear gas shells are being purchased in the context of the violent incidents that have occurred in Attock and Rawalpindi during the past two years.
Punjab government sources further said that another amount of Rs200 million will be released in January itself for the purchase of tear gas shells.
Police sources said, the purchased tear gas shells will be provided to the police and riot management forces of other districts across Punjab, including Lahore.
In view of the violent incidents of the past two years, the riot management strategy will be made more effective this year.
