Inflation breaks 47-year record in country

Inflation rate rises to 27.3 percent in August last

Inflation rate in the country broke 47-year record, for it rose to 27.3 per cent in the previous month, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, inflation was 24.9 per cent in July 2022, and it was 8.4 per cent in August 2021.

The inflation rate remained 26.2 per cent in cities and 28.8 per cent in villages in August last. In this month, the price of tomatoes increased by 52.8 per cent, moong pulse by 15.2 per cent and vegetables by 13.4 per cent.

In one month, the price of mash pulse increased by 12.4 per cent, masoor pulse by 11.6 per cent and eggs by 7.5 per cent.

Electricity tariffs increased by 19.7 per cent, whereas, the price of liquefied fuel rose by 6.9 per cent in August.

Moreover, electricity tariffs in cities rose by 123.3 per cent in a year.

On an annual basis, the price of masoor pulse rose by 118.6 per cent, onion by 96.7 per cent and gram by 88.8 per cent.

In one year, the price of cooking oil increased by 69.6 per cent and ghee by 68.6 per cent.

Also, the price of gram pulse increased by 65.6 per cent, chicken by 63.2 per cent and mash pulse by 52.3 per cent during this period.

On an annual basis, the price of gram flour increased by 48.5 per cent, vegetables by 41.6 per cent and wheat by 39.8 per cent.

In one year, the price of rice increased by 35.2 per cent, eggs by 34.5 per cent and meat by 26 per cent.
