Punjab CM orders effective measures to prevent canal water theft

On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, desilting of 1,112 canals of the province will be launched from December 26 which will last until January 20, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In this regard all the divisional commissioners have been assigned the task of monitoring the desilting of canals which is being conducted after a gap of ten years.
The Chief Minister while chairing a meeting on Sunday in Lahore directed that the commissioners will remain in the field during the desilting and will supervise all other matters.
He instructed that attention should also be paid to the repair of canals along with desilting.
Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi ordered to take effective measures to check canal water theft.
The CM directed that administrative officers should take effective action in their respective districts to address water theft.
In the meeting, measures to prevent water theft and desilting programs were reviewed.
Additional Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning and Development Board, Secretaries Agriculture, Irrigation, Food, Information, Commissioner Lahore and concerned officers of Agriculture Department attended the meeting.
Provincial Agriculture Minister SM Tanveer and all Divisional Commissioners participated in the meeting through video link.
