OGRA impounds containers loaded with contaminated LPG cylinders

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has set up special squads to take action against distributors selling contaminated LGP cylinders, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

These squads were formed after instructions from LGP Distributors Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar.

He said that it was detected that gas was being theft from LPG Browser and carbon dioxide was mixing in it.

Khokhar said that increase in incidents of LPG cylinder blasts were increased due to mixing of carbon dioxide while its actual capacity is 540.

He further revealed that around 900 to 1200 pressure enhanced after mixture of carbon dioxide.

A container consumes 2,35,000 MT LPG while 24 tons of carbon dioxide. He said that after mixing of carbon dioxide of Rs15 per kilogram the gas is being sold on Rs300.

OGRA forwarded the impounded bowser and culminated cylinders to laboratory for further determination.

Prior to this, OGRA also imposed Rs5 lakh penalty on five LPG companies, while heavy penalty will be imposed on companies selling culminated LGP cylinders.

While OGRA started operation to collect suspicious LGP cylinders from the markets.
