Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Saturday that the PTI did not take the party into confidence prior to its talks with the government, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, he said that the JUI-F was not interested in negotiations with the government in the present circumstances.
He said that the completion of the government’s five-year term and its legitimacy were two different things.
Fazl said that the government could not absolve itself of responsibility by merely making claims that the economic indicators had improved.
He went on to say he had issues with those politicians who made ‘compromises’. “These politicians do this only to ensure they remain in power.”
The JUI-F chief said there was a need to reach a consensus in order to resolve the issues confronting the country.
He called upon the provincial assemblies to pass the Madaris Registration Bill at the earliest. “Neither religious seminaries have tolerated government interference in their affairs in the past, nor will they do it this time,” he said emphatically.
He asserted that the party wanted to avoid confrontation.
Fazl lamented that the candidate, who had been declared a winner from PB-45, did not win even from a single polling station.
He said his meeting with Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi was of a private nature. “The minister visits my home frequently.”
The JUI-F chief said that the government tried to bring some seminaries under its control.
Responding to a question about Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Fazl said he had great respect for him.
