Five children has died of measles epidemic in Qambar district of Sindh while 20 others suffering from the disease were hospitalized, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.


According to hospital sources, measles epidemic started spreading in Ghogharu area of Qambar due to which three children died within a week and 15 other children are suffering from measles.


The deceased included 3-year-old girl Latifan, 4-year-old Dua Batul and 3-year-old child Rehan.


Sources said 10 days ago in Sajawal Junejo, the number of children who died of measles has increased to two while five children have been infected by measles.


Families of the infected children said that the sick children were diagnosed with measles by a local doctor.


If the health department and the administration do not make efforts, there is a fear of more children's deaths.


Meanwhile, Bahawalpur and suburbs began to assume measles epidemic status as 14 more children reported during the last 24 hours.


Among the infected, 12 children were reported at Victoria Hospital while two at Sir Sadiq Abbasi Hospital.


The number of measles-affected children admitted in both hospitals increased to 15.


Since April 8, the number of measles patients in both hospitals has crossed 135.


In this regard, medical experts advised parents should isolate infected children from healthy children as soon as symptoms of measles appear and vaccinate children on time to prevent further spread of measles.
