The Punjab government has launched the "Umeed-e-Nau Program" under the special directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to support underprivileged students during the harsh winter season.
This initiative aims to provide essential winter attire, including sweaters and shoes, to students lacking such basic necessities.
The program, spearheaded by the Social Welfare Department and Bait-ul-Mal will officially commence on January 13.
In its first phase, pilot projects will distribute free uniforms in four districts: Narowal, Lahore, Layyah, and Rajanpur.
Following the winter vacation, deserving students in Narowal will receive sweaters, shoes, socks, and other winter essentials.
The initiative is set to benefit 23,000 students from 204 schools, and PKR 43.437 million has been allocated for the distribution of winter uniforms.
The inaugural ceremony for the program will be held in Narowal, where Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Suhail Shaukat Butt will formally launch the initiative.
Officials have assured that the program operates with complete transparency and adheres strictly to merit.
Plans are already underway to extend the program to other districts in the near future, expanding its reach to a greater number of deserving students.
