Motorways closed for traffic after fog again blankets plains of Punjab

Different sections of the motorway were closed for traffic on Sunday after dense fog again engulfed large parts of Punjab, reducing visibility considerably, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
So dense was fog at some places that objects just a few meters away could not be seen, while at some places the visibility was almost nil.
According to the spokesman for the Motorway Police (MP) Syed Imran Ahmad, section of the motorway from Lahore to Islamabad (M 2) was closed up till Sheikhupura.
Similarly, he informed, M 3, from Faizpur to Darkhana, M 11, from Lahore to Sialkot, M 4, from Multan to Faisalabad, and M 5, from Sher Shah to Rahim Yar Khan, were also declared off-limits for motorists.
He went on to say that motorways had to be closed in order to ensure the safety of commuters. “The duration of fog has prolonged due to extreme cold,” he said, and added, “People are advised to first avoid travelling unnecessarily. And if it is really necessary, travel during the daytime, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, when the fog is not dense, and return to their homes before its gets dark.”
The spokesman further advised motorists to turn the fog lights of their vehicles on while driving; drive at a slow speed and also keep distance from other vehicles. “For further information or in case of emergency, you can dial our helpline no 130,” he concluded.
On the other hand, the weather is getting chillier in Lahore and other parts of Punjab by the day.
The minimum temperature on Sunday morning was recorded at 6 degrees Celsius, while humidity level in the air at 90 per cent.
Light breeze was blowing at the speed of three kilometers per hour.
People, suffering from flu and other seasonal diseases, are praying for rain.
But the Met Office, on the other hand, forecast dry weather for the provincial capital and other parts of the province during the next 24 hours.
It also predicted that temperatures would further drop in the coming days.
