Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi Thursday paid a surprise visit to the Liberty Police Service Centre and interacted with the citizens who came for driving licenses.
During his visit, he ordered to reduce the time for re-taking the driver’s test to two weeks.
He listened to their complaints and grievances and issued orders on the spot for their redressal.
He also announced that from December 25, citizens will be able to book an appointment in advance through a mobile app or a website to avoid long queues and delays. He said that the app will be available for both Android and Apple users soon.
The Chief Minister also inspected various counters of the service centre and expressed his satisfaction with the facilities and staff performance.
He said that the service centre is a model of public service delivery and that he will ensure that similar standards are maintained in all police stations across the province. He said that he wants to see a change in the working environment and culture of the police force in the next few weeks.
During his visit, the Chief Minister also witnessed some interesting incidents. He saw a crowd at the entrance of the service centre and stopped to talk to them.
He asked one of them how long he had been driving without a license. The man replied that he had been driving for 24 years without a license.
The Chief Minister smiled and walked away, saying that he should get a license as soon as possible.
He also noticed a young man shivering in the cold while waiting outside the service centre.
He instructed the officials to put up a canopy and a ring for the people who had to wait outside. He also advised them to wear warm clothes in the winter season.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Inspector General of Police, CCPO and other senior officials during his visit.
