The Council of Islamic Ideology has declared the use of "VPN" as un-Islamic, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Council of Islamic Ideology Chairman Dr Raghib Naeemi in a statement said that the government has right under Shariah compliance to take steps to curb evil and close apps like VPN (virtual private network) which were spreading evil in the society.
CII chairman said government should urgently ban controversial, blasphemous content and app which was being used to threaten national integrity. CII chief further said that using of VPN or any other software to access unethical or illegal activities is prohibited by law as well as Islam. He made it clear that using a VPN with the intention of accessing illegal content or blocked websites is illegitimate in Shariah.
Earlier, Ministry of Interior has sent a letter to PTA for the closure of illegal VPN(virtual private network) in Pakistan which was being used by terrorists for hiding of their identities during their anti-state activities. According to the letter, VPN was also being used for pornography and blasphemous content. Interior Ministry also directed PTA that while blocking illegal VPNs, customers and user of registered VPN should not get affected from it. The Ministry of Home Affairs has requested the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to complete their process by November 30.
