NEOC Session: NDMA Chairman urges sustainable infrastructure to deal with floods

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik asked the stakeholders to support building a sustainable and resilient infrastructure to deal with natural disasters like floods in the future.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) session was held at the NDMA office under the chair of the NDMA chairman in Islamabad on Friday.
NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam addressing the session stressed building sustainable and resilient infrastructure to deal with natural disasters like floods in the future.
The representatives of the Ministry of Food Security, Ministry of Railways, Pakistan Meteorology Department (PMD), Federal Flood Commission (FFC), National Highway Authority (NHA), National Institute of Health (NIH), and National Information Technology Board (NITB) attended the session.
In the press release issued by the authority on Friday, federal departments briefed the house on recovery and rehabilitation progress in their respective fields after Floods 2022. 
NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam asked the relevant departments to draw comprehensive plans for initiating necessary measures on account of the possible shortage of water due to low rainfall in this season. He also requested PR & NHA to ensure the development of sustainable and Disaster Resilience structures keeping in view vulnerabilities for natural calamities in the country. 
During the meeting, PMD briefed the forum on the weather outlook for this winter season and stated that less than normal rainfall is expected during December 2022 and a normal rainfall spell would likely be experienced in January 2023. NIH briefed the session on remedial measures and observed the declining trajectory in the spread of epidemic diseases in flood-affected areas.
Representatives of the Ministry of Food Security and NITB informed NEOC about the progress of a digital application for registration and provision of relief to farmers. NHA and Pakistan Railways gave briefings on the current status of communication infrastructure in flood-ravaged areas and reconstruction plans. 
Chairman NDMA explained to the participants on the need for further and closer integration of all departments and briefed them on his vision to expand the NEOC and make it live interfaced with all departments to remodel NDMA from a response-oriented entity to a proactive mode.
The meeting adjourned with principal directions and guidance for each department in view of futuristic disaster mitigation planning for the future and lessons learned during the recent floods.
