The Mumbai Police have launched a thorough investigation into the brutal attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence in Bandra suggesting that the attacker may have been inside the actor's Bandra residence long before the horrifying scuffle.
The police investigation, which initially pointed to a possible robbery attempt, now raises more questions as CCTV footage shows no one entering the housing society during the two hours leading up to the attack.
Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam confirmed that Saif was attacked inside his home and subsequently rushed to the hospital around 3:00 AM. The police team and senior officials arrived at the scene shortly after. "Upon receiving the information, we immediately sent a team to investigate. The actor has been admitted to Lilavati Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries," Gedam said.
However, what followed has left investigators puzzled. Despite initial reports of a potential burglary, CCTV footage from the building's security cameras taken two hours before the attack shows no suspicious activity or any individual entering the housing society.
The police now suspect that the attacker may have already been inside the premises, possibly for some time.
As the investigation continues, Mumbai Police have launched a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the attack. At least seven police teams have been assigned to track down the assailant and explore all possible leads.
Further raising eyebrows, police sources indicated that the security guard at the residential complex did not notice anyone entering the premises at the time. "There are still many questions surrounding the attack. We are investigating all angles to determine who is behind this, and we are questioning staff members for additional information," said a senior police official.
Five members of Saif Ali Khan's household staff, including attendants, are currently being questioned. Police have also stated that the attacker was highly likely to have been familiar with the layout of the residence. One of the attendants reportedly sustained injuries during the altercation, although their condition is stable.
As of now, authorities have not officially confirmed whether the attack was related to a robbery attempt, and police remain tight-lipped about any further details.
The shocking incident unfolded at around 2:30 AM when Saif Ali Khan was stabbed multiple times by an intruder. In addition to the actor, a female member of his team was also injured in the attack and rushed to the hospital.
Thankfully, her condition is stable, but Saif remains under medical supervision at Lilavati Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
