Fijian rugby international Vinaya Habosi, currently playing for French Top 14 team Racing 92, was arrested on Sunday following allegations of domestic violence, police sources told AFP on Monday.

According to the source, who confirmed a report in Le Parisien, the police intervened at the winger's home after an argument between him and his wife, in the presence of their baby.

Witnesses to the altercation claim the 24-year-old, who played 10 minutes as a replacement in Saturday's match against Clermont, pushed and hit his wife, which the victim confirmed to the police at the time.

Habosi showed "signs of drunkenness" at the time of the incident, according to the police source.

He was arrested in the early evening and taken into police custody in Clamart, a suburb to the south-west of Paris.

In a statement issued on Monday, Racing 92 said it was "aware of the charges" against Habosi.

"Pending further information from the relevant authorities, Racing 92 refrains from any further comment," the club added without further details.

Habosi played in five of Fiji's matches at last year's World Cup, starting at wing against England in the quarter-finals.
