Punjab hires services of 1,400 Ulema for population control campaign

To stop the heavily growingly population in the province, the Punjab government has hired services of 1,400 Ulema (religious leaders) for the awareness campaign.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the Punjab assembly session was held on Friday and Minister for Population Welfare Muhammad Hashim Dogar highlighted the issue of population.
He told the assembly that the present government has enlisted the services of 1400 scholars for an anti-population awareness campaign.
The Minister said that no previous government has taken serious steps to reduce the population rate in the province.
He said that if the population continues to grow at the same rate then in 2047 the population of Punjab will be reached 250 million and the population of Pakistan will be 500 million.
Participating in the debate on population in the house, treasury and opposition benches called for serious action on the important issue of population.
The ruling party, PTI member Ayesha Iqbal said that population growth is a time bomb so the issue should be taken seriously.
Nawaz League's member from Zakia Shahnawaz suggested that the government could enlist the help of NGOs and the private sector to control the population.
The session of the Punjab Assembly started with two hours delay under the chairmanship of the Panel of Chairman Mian Shafi.
During the Friday session, Law Minister Raja Basharat presented the audit report of Lahore Waste Management Company for the year 2018-19 in the House.
Later, the chair adjourned the session till one o'clock on Monday afternoon.
