Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh has said that Pakistan's industry cannot make progress without providing cheap electricity, reported 24NewsHD TRV channel.
In an exclusive conversation with 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday, Irfan Iqbal Sheikh said that the hike in country’s exports is very important for economic headway otherwise nothing will happen and the national economy will continue to suffer due to lower exports.
In order to improve the economy, he continued, reduction in the electricity prices was inevitable. He added that high electricity costs made it impossible for our expensive products to compete in the world market.
“How will we compete with other countries in expensive products?” he asked the government.
Then, citing the example of China which is providing electricity to industry at 8 cents in comparison to Pakistan’s 18 cents per unit, he stated Pakistan's industry cannot develop without getting inexpensive electricity; otherwise the country will face more difficulties in future.
