Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved appointment of Najam Sethi as new chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), replacing Ramiz Raja, reported 24NewsDH TV channel.
The PCB Constitution 2014 has also been revived.
Earlier, the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) sent a summary to Prime Minister’s House for amendments to the constitution of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and changes in its governing board.
The official sources said that the summary had demanded the restoration of PCB Constitution, 2014.
The names of PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja and Asad Ali Khan were withdrawn from the governing board in the summary.
In their place, the names of former PCB chairman Najam Sethi and Shakeel Sheikh were added in the summary.
After the approval of the summary by the prime minister, the change will be introduced in the PCB.
The process of changes in the PCB will start within one or two days.
A temporary selection committee, comprised of four renowned cricketers, will be appointed to select Pakistan's squad for the upcoming home Test series against New Zealand.
Najam Sethi will replace Ramiz Raja who was appointed as PCB chairman by ex-PM Imran Khan in September 2021. After Ehsan Mani refused to continue as the PCB boss, Imran Khan brought his former teammate Raja into charge.
During the last year and so, Pakistan played semi-final of ICC T20 World Cup 2021, final of Asia Cup 2022, and final of ICC T20 World Cup 2022. During this time period, greenshirts also won tri-nation series in New Zealand.
Raja, during his time at the helm of Pakistan cricket, faced backlashes for his reckless comments, especially on the issues with BCCI regarding India touring Pakistan for any future series.
Raja's sack came after Pakistan's 3-0 Test series loss against England. The Pakistan side was lackluster against England in the current series and PCB was heavily criticized for their management and below-par pitches.
Ramiz Raja became the fourth Pakistani Test cricketer to become chairman after Ijaz Butt, Javed Burki and Abdul Hafeez Kardar. He also served as the chief executive of PCB in 2003.
