David Beckham, the renowned football icon and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, delivered a powerful speech advocating for girls' rights at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Monday.

The event also honored Beckham with a prestigious award, recognizing his two decades of humanitarian work.

Speaking passionately about the challenges faced by girls worldwide, Beckham highlighted systemic barriers that prevent them from realizing their potential.

“Girls are held back by poverty, girls are held back by violence, girls are held back by discrimination,” he emphasized. “They need opportunities, collective action, and investment.”

As a father of four, Beckham underscored his commitment to fostering equality within his family. He shared that his daughter, Harper Beckham, is being given the same opportunities as her brothers, Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz, whom he shares with his wife, Victoria Beckham.

“I’ve always believed in the potential of children, and that when children are given time, opportunity, and encouragement, they will reach their full potential,” Beckham stated. Reflecting on his upbringing, he credited the support of his family, coaches, and teachers for shaping his journey.

Beckham’s speech aligns with his long-standing dedication to child welfare.

Earlier, he marked 20 years as a UNICEF Ambassador, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to make a difference through his charity work. His foundation, 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund, established in 2015, focuses on empowering vulnerable children and advocating for their rights globally.

The heartfelt speech resonated with attendees at Davos, serving as a reminder of the urgent need for collective action to address gender disparities.
