Adviser on Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik has announced that the consultation process between the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commission members will commence soon.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Barrister Aqeel Malik criticised the PTI for alleged constitutional violations in the appointment process of the CEC and members. He stated that the PTI is not adhering to the constitutional procedure for these appointments.

He emphasised that under the Constitution, it is mandatory for the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition to consult each other for these appointments. However, PTI demanded the formation of a parliamentary committee without first initiating the consultation process.

The law adviser explained that following the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the CEC and members can continue performing their duties.

He pointed out that even during PTI’s tenure, its founder chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan delayed the appointments of Election Commission members, which he termed a significant violation of the law.

Barrister Aqeel Malik also criticised PTI for failing to notice the delays in Election Commission appointments during its own government.
