Late army general's son fears ‘nuclear terrorism’ in Pakistan by India

Making a startling revelation, Abdullah Gul, the son of late army general Hamid Gul, has said that there are risks of nuclear terrorism in Pakistan following the theft of radioactive devices from Mumbai’s Bhabha Atomic Energy and later its sale in the black market, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.  

He said that police in Dehradun city of India on Friday arrested five persons for possessing the device. “In fact, this device is a radiography camera, which had been recovered from the residence of former income tax commissioner,” he said, adding, “Police received information that some suspected criminals had gone to the ex-commissioner’s flat where they discussed with him the sale of the device.”

Gul said that police raided the flat and took five people into custody besides also recovering the device from them. “A black box was also recovered from the suspects which had nuclear material in it and which, if opened, could result in radiation.”

Gul reminded this was not the first time that such an incident had taken place in India. “In fact, such thefts have taken place in the neighbouring country multiple times before,” he said, adding, “However, incidents like these have exposed inadequate arrangements made for the security of India’s nuclear programme.”
