Judicial Commission approves appointment of 12 additional judges to SHC

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Thursday approved with a majority vote appointment of 12 additional judges to the Sindh High Court (SHC). 

According to a notification issued by the Judicial Commission, here the names of the nominees for the posts of additional judges: 

1. Ms. Tasneem Sultana, DSJ
2. Mr. Khalid Hussain Shahani, DSJ
3. Mr. Miran Muhammad Shah, advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan
4. Mr. Abdul Hamid Bhurgri, advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan
5. Mr. Ali Haider Ada, advocate
6. Mr. Jan Ali Junejo, advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan
7. Mr. Muhammad Hasan (Akber), Advocate General, Sindh
8. Mr. Muhammad Jaffer Raza, advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan
9. Mr. Muhammad Osman Ali Hadi, advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan
10. Mr. Nisar Ahmed Bhanbhro, advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan
11. Mr. Riazat Ali Sahar, advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan
12. Syed Fiaz ul Hassan Shah, advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan

The commission co­­nsidered 46 candidates vyi­ng for the 12 vacant posts. The list included four female candidates — two lawyers and two district and sessions judges (DSJs).

The JCP considered the overall performance of all candidates. At a recent meeting on appointment of judges to the Islamabad High Court, the commission examined the overall performance of the candidates, with a focus on their case disposal rate.

DSJ Tasneem Sultana was number 2 on the seniority list of SHC’s subordinate judiciary. She joined the judicial service on April 28, 1994 and her age of superannuation is May 14, 2026. She was promoted to the post of DSJ on Feb 9, 2012 and was awaiting posting.

Earlier, she was working as an accountability judge where she disposed of three references, 21 bail applications, six criminal miscellaneous applications and three investigations.

Another DSJ, Munawar Sultana, was number five on the seniority list. She joined the judicial service on July 13, 2005, and was promoted to sessions judge on July 15, 2013. She will attain the age of superannuation on Dec 6 this year. At present, she is working as a sessions judge in Khairpur, where she delivered 931 judgements in three years.

Also, the Judicial Commission extended the tenure of the judges on Sindh High Court’s constitutional benches for six months.
