An agreement has been reached between the Punjab Department of Prisons and the Utility Stores Corporation to establish tuck shops in jails across Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.
The agreement was signed by DIG Headquarters Mian Salik Jalal on behalf of the Prisons Department and Senior General Manager Inayatullah Doula representing the Utility Stores Corporation Pakistan.
These tuck shops will provide a range of items to prisoners, including food and beverages such as tea, cold drinks, milk, curd, juice, bakery items, and snacks.
Additionally, hygiene products like soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste will be available. Other essential items including tissue paper, cigarettes, and snuff will also be stocked.
The tuck shops will operate from 9 am to 5 pm, seven days a week. To ensure convenience and transparency, the payment for purchases will be made through prisoners' accounts in Punjab Bank, utilizing biometric authentication for online transactions. Cash payments will not be accepted, ensuring a secure and transparent procurement process.
