Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has filed a petition in Supreme Court challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In the petition filed on Tuesday, the SIC requested the apex court that 26th Constitutional Amendment should be declared as unconstitutional.

It was further requested that independent investigation into the method of obtaining votes in favour of 26th Amendment should be conducted. 

Allegations of coercive measures and illegal methods to pass the amendment should be investigated, further requested in petition.

Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Amendment Act 2024 and Supreme Court Judges Number Amendment Act should also be declared unconstitutional, requested in petition.

PIC took plea that 26th Amendment in the Constitution 2024 is unconstitutional, illegal and unenforceable.

The 26th Amendment has destroyed the important features and fundamental values ​​of the Constitution, text of petition further said.

The 26th Amendment has destroyed the independence of the judiciary.

The amendment has affected the distribution of fundamental rights and powers.

The 26th Amendment is an attempt to change, repeal or abolish the fundamental features of the Constitution.

The amendment is illegal and unenforceable under Article 239 of the Constitution.
